Today is Pohela Boishakh 1425. This is Bangla New Year which also called is Pohela Boishakh. Pohela Boishakh is traditional day of all Bengali nations. It is also called শুভ নববর্ষ ” Shubho Noboborsho”.
In Bangladesh, it is a national holiday. All ages people wishing happy New Year to his relative, friends, and well-wishes and so on. All the Bengali people celebrate this day very colorfully and joyfully. All kinds of people wear traditional Bengali dresses girls wear White-red color sarees, salwar kameez and boys wear pajama-panjab, Lungi, Gamsa etc. Young women’s are asking their hair with flowers beautifully. They also painted their body parts with white and red color Pohela Boishakh or শুভ নববর্ষ “Shubho Nabobarsho“.
On this day people rise very early in the morning and eat watered-rice with onion, green chili and Hilsha fish to celebrate this day. On these occasions all Shop keepers both in villages and towns open current account book which named as Halkhata and distribute sweets among their customers and clients. Many cultural programmers held on this day like fairs, Baishakhi Mela, music, dances, puppet shows, meeting, seminar, symposium, discussion etc. Also the celebrations will start with an interpretation of Rabindranath Tagore’s popular song Esho he Baishakh esho esho. Now present days many traditional events held to celebrate Poila Boishakh ias well as bull racing in Munshiganj, wrestling in Chittagong, boat racing, cockfights, pigeon racing. Almost every year this day comes with new hopes and aspirations. It is very special day of all Bengalis which gives special strength to forget the previous failure and make people dream for the best in future.
In Dhaka, thousands of all kinds of people young, old, men, women, rich, poor people joined Chhayanaut’s programmes at the Ramna Batamul after sunrise to welcome Boishakh. F ine Arts of Dhaka University arranged Mangal Shobhajatra and thousands of people take part in the demonstration that features gigantic replicas of birds, fish, animals, and other motifs.
